One-on-one Support for Adults Affected by Suicide
These sessions are not a crisis service. If you are in immediate distress or at risk, please seek urgent support through local services.
You needn’t navigate suicide loss alone. I was 12 years of age when my dad took his life. I also have over 25 years’ experience supporting individuals after suicide. I get it. I understand how complex and isolating suicide loss can be. The shock, the struggle to make sense of what has happened, the never-ending “what if’s” and “if only’s”, the questions about who you are now, and wondering how, or if, you will get through this. This support is for adults who have been bereaved by suicide and are looking for practical, responsive, one-on-one support.
Each session is guided by what you most need at that time. This means I don’t come to each session with a set topic of structure in mind. Instead, I take your lead. We focus on what is most helpful for you in that moment. That said, if you ever come to a session unsure what might be most helpful for you, I will suggest some possible topics from which you can choose. This ensures you remain in control, and sessions stay responsive to your needs. Alongside support, I bring research-informed insights to help you better understand what you are experiencing and why.
Topics you might find helpful to discuss:
- making sense of your grief and emotional responses
- navigating guilt, questions, or “what ifs”
- managing day-to-day life when things feel overwhelming
- support around returning to work or relationships
- finding ways to stay connected with your loved one
- issues of changed identity and questions about who you are now.
There is no requirement to commit to a set number of sessions. People choose to continue because they find the sessions helpful.
If you are interested in working together, please get in touch. I offer limited one-on-one appointments, and if we decide it is a good fit, I will do my best to offer an appointment as soon as possible.
Sessions are $200 NZD for 60 minutes and are delivered online.
Free therapeutic support is also available in Aotearoa New Zealand through Aoake te Rā (www.aoaketera.org.nz). I share this so you can make an informed decision about the support that feels right for you.
"Shelley, I can’t thank you enough. You have made such a huge difference, you are amazing. I wish I had found you sooner.""Shelley is wonderful. I know I have still got a long way to go, and I still have bad days, but I feel more in control now. I understand a lot more than I did, and that's been huge for me. I read a lot and researched a lot on the internet after my sister died, but it was so helpful being able to talk to someone who knows about suicide and grief.""I highly recommend Shelley. I lost my husband a number of years ago and since then I have really struggled. Not only with my grief, but knowing who I am. For the first time in years, I have a sense of hope for that's ahead for me now."
